Some places stay with you long after you've returned home. For me, Malibu will always be one of them.
This trip was a celebration - a few days spent by the ocean with a dear friend as she marked yet another trip around the sun. It was January, and while California was certainly warmer than New York, there was still a gentle chill in the air. Sweaters came out as the sun disappeared, fires were lit in the evenings, and mornings called for an extra layer and a cup of coffee overlooking the Pacific.
The days, however, belonged to the sunshine. The coastline glowed in shades of blue and green. Agaves stretched toward the ocean. Bright yellow lemons seemed to appear everywhere. Even the hills carried warm golden tones that felt worlds away from the grey East Coast winter we had left behind.
My wardrobe for the trip was intentionally simple - denim, lightweight knits, comfortable layers, and a handbag I carried almost everywhere: my beloved STOW London bag. I've always admired its understated elegance. The leather is exceptionally soft and supple, the silhouette beautifully refined, and despite its luxurious feel, the bag remains surprisingly lightweight. It is one of those rare pieces that quietly elevates everything around it without ever demanding attention. Naturally, it became the perfect companion for the Fay silk bracelet.
With its rich blend of golden yellow, warm amber, cinnamon brown, and touches of deep red, Fay seemed perfectly at home against the neutral leather. Tied casually around the handle, it added just enough color and movement to make the bag feel entirely different - almost as though the two pieces had been designed for one another.
What I loved most was that I rarely wore the bracelet on my wrist. Instead, it spent most of the trip adorning the handbag, accompanying us on coastal walks, leisurely lunches, sunset views, and spontaneous detours along the Pacific Coast Highway. It became part of the visual diary of the journey.
And perhaps that's one of the things we love most about silk accessories. They are small enough to travel effortlessly, yet somehow become woven into our memories of a place. Months later, a simple glance at a scarf or bracelet can instantly transport us back - to the ocean breeze, the afternoon sunshine, the laughter shared over dinner, and those beautiful moments we wish could last a little longer.
The Fay bracelet will always remind me of Malibu. Of bright lemons, endless ocean views, golden California light, and a wonderful celebration of friendship by the sea.
